The Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) condemns the violence meted out on journalists during the Kawempe North by-elections that were held on 13th March 2025. A number of journalists were assaulted by men in uniform leaving some hospitalized and their cameras destroyed.

“The Government and Security Agencies should uphold human rights, exercise restraint, and ensure the safety of all citizens at all timed including during elections,” said Joshua Kitakule, the Secretary General of IRCU.
