IRCU-TEFU take custody of memorandum of protocol between the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu and Obundigya Bwa Bamba

The Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) and The Elders’ Forum of Uganda have been are now the official custodians of the memorandum of protocol on how to work out peace in the Rwenzori districts of Kasese and Bundibugyo, which have been affected by conflicts lately.
The joint communique issued on 14th April 2016, and signed by both the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu and Obudingya Bwa Bamba, is an agreement between the two kings that spells out the conditions required to create peace in the region. The document was signed after a meeting between the two principles organised by Captain Mike Mukula.
IRCU and TEFU were given the honors of safely keeping these signed documents as key witnesses in this step towards building peace in the conflict stricken region. According to Justice Ogoola, the documents have been put in very safe hands.
“We are honored as IRCU and TEFU, highly honored for having been given the privilege of keeping the documents that have been signed today. You have put them into very safe hands because IRCU is the conscience of this nation, and TEFU the custodians of the heritage of this nation. We shall keep them jealously and vigilantly,” Justice Ogoola said.

In summary, the two parties agreed to;
1.Work tirelessly and endlessly to re-establishing peace, security and stability in the region through promoting deliberate and strategic conflict resolution mechanisms, including early warning signals to prevent the possibility of the occurrence of any situation that might threaten the peace in the region.
They agreed that a permanent working committee comprising of relevant stakeholders from the cultural institutions, the government and citizens of Uganda, be set up for the purposes of coordinating these efforts.
That a roadmap beginning with the calling of an end to hostilities, to calling of consultative and coordination meetings of the two administrations will be designed and agreed upon with logical conclusions.
2.Promote inter-cultural institutional dialogue and resolved that the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu and Obudingya Bwa Bamba, will hold joint mobilization rallies in their respective territories of jurisdiction, with a purposeful message of peace, stability and harmonious co-existence.
3.Work together as cultural institutions with all stakeholders in the regions to draw the clear dichotomy between national and local politics and the cultural institutions, and specifically curtail their respective subjects and people who engage in elective politics from invoking the cultural institutions, and to liaise with government.
4.To promote the principles of equity, justice and specifically respect for the rule and institution of law within the region and to particularly discourage impunity and such involving the people and subjects in extra judicial activities.
