Over 400 delegates attend IRCU National HIV/AIDS Conference

Over 400 delegates attended the IRCU National HIV/AIDS Conference at Hotel Africana in Kampala. The conference that ran from 10th to 12th July 2012 was organized jointly by the Uganda Aids Commission (UAC) with support from USAID.

It was organized under the theme ‘’Harnessing Inter-Religious action and collaboration for accelerated HIV/AIDS national response’’ The delegates included Senior Religious Leaders, researchers, policy makers, Government representatives, funding bodies, International Agencies, NGOs and faith-based organizations.

The National HIV/AIDS conference was aimed at providing a platform for IRCU HIV/AIDS program to share with key stakeholders the technical and ethical contributions made to the national HIV/AIDS response in Uganda.

Opening the conference, the president of IRCU Council of presidents Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga and Archbishop of the Uganda Orthodox Church, called for behavioral change among Ugandans in order to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS. He advised Ugandans not to mistake ARVs for HIV/AIDS cure so as to be complacent.
