Speaker Kadaga Pledges Support to Religious Leaders

The Inter-Council of Uganda organized the 2013 Prayer Breakfast   meeting with Members of the 9th Parliament to pray for national leaders and discuss pressing governance challenges the country faces.  At the congregation held at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala on June 7, 2013 religious leaders called for tougher action against corrupt leaders while the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga offered support to the religious leaders’ cause. The theme of the Prayer Breakfast was: “God’s Servants for the Common Good”.

IRCU Secretary General, Mr Joshua Kitakule explained that the purpose of the Prayer Breakfast meeting was to pray for parliamentarians and bring to their attention governance issues that are critical for the development of democracy in the country. Mr. Kitakule, in his welcome speech, observed that it was important for parliamentarians and religious

leaders to enjoy a symbiotic relationship. “We are both spokespersons of   the ordinary folks of Uganda and in order to deliver on our mandate we need your goodwill, collaboration and constant engagement,” Mr Kitakule stated.

The Council of Presidents, drew the attention of the Members of Parliament on issues that needed their attention for the common good of the country. Critical among them,they listed the need for ethical leadership, and elimination of corruption.
